Corporate Social Responsibility at GM Minibus
GM Minibus has been a family business for over 38 years, and throughout that time our guiding purpose has been simple: to make a difference to people’s lives. That mission has never wavered, and it continues to underpin our values and shape the way we operate.
We hold firmly to the belief that businesses should play an active role in addressing the challenges the world faces and we are committed to being a positive force for change.
We support a broad range of local and national initiatives focused on inclusion, wellbeing, and lasting social value.
Our CSR policy is based around the following three strands:
Ethics and people
Governance
The family-run nature of GM Minibus provides a foundation of strong, values-driven leadership. This enables a long-term approach to decision-making, with sustainable growth and customer satisfaction remaining priorities across generations.
Health and safety in the workplace
Our operations are conducted in line with ISO 45001, the internationally recognised standard for occupational health and safety management systems, reflecting our commitment to proactively identifying, managing, and reducing workplace risks.
We carry out regular assessments of our working environments and introduce suitable controls and procedures to keep risk to a minimum. All employees are encouraged to take an active role in workplace safety, whether by reporting hazards or contributing ideas for improvement. Every member of our team receives thorough training to ensure they can carry out their role safely and with confidence.
At GM Minibus, we understand that mental and physical health are both essential. We are committed to promoting a positive work-life balance and supporting the wider wellbeing of our employees. Through the RISE health and wellbeing service, staff have access to a wide range of support and resources. Our goal is to build an environment where people feel valued and empowered to do their best work.
Diversity, equity and inclusion (equal opportunities)
Our workforce of 300 employees reflects a rich diversity of backgrounds and life experiences. We believe this breadth of perspective makes us stronger as a business and better equipped to serve our customers.
Designing and manufacturing wheelchair accessible vehicles and minibuses means inclusion is not just a policy, it is the essence of the business. We are driven by a collective mission to make the world more accessible and to give our customers the independence and freedom they deserve.
We work to foster a culture in which every employee feels respected, valued, and empowered to contribute. Open dialogue and mutual respect are encouraged at all levels of the organisation.
Community and social impact
Community matters deeply to us, both within our organisation and further afield. As a family business, we actively seek ways to give back and to support those who need it most.
We are proud to work alongside a wide range of local and national organisations, helping to build stronger communities, deliver services to those in need, and contribute to a more inclusive society.
Exeter Otters Wheelchair Basketball Club
Independence and mobility are central to our work, which is why we are delighted to sponsor the Exeter Otters Wheelchair Basketball Club. Founded in 1980, they are among the oldest clubs of their kind in the UK and compete in Division One of the GBWBA League. Alongside their sporting success, the club runs inclusive training sessions open to participants of all abilities, championing teamwork and physical health in our local community.
Trussell Trust
We are a proud corporate donor to the Trussell Trust, an anti-poverty charity that supports more than 1,600 food bank centres across the UK. Our donations contribute to providing emergency food parcels and practical support to people and families facing crisis situations.
Family Fund
Families raising children with additional needs face extraordinary pressures, and we are committed to supporting them. Family Fund is the UK’s largest charity offering grants and services to low-income families with disabled or seriously ill children and young people. As annual corporate donors, we help fund grants for essentials such as white goods, computers, sensory toys, and family breaks for over 66,000 families each year.
Rotherham Parents Forum
We demonstrate our commitment to the SEND community through our support of the Rotherham Parents Forum, including the provision of equipment. This organisation provides an essential source of help and peer support for families of young people with SEND and neurodivergent adults in the Rotherham area, giving every individual a voice and a sense of community.
ProTouch Football Academy
As Team and Kit sponsors of ProTouch Football Academy, we are proud to support this Community Interest Company (CIC) in its work delivering elite football and structured community sports programmes across 10 London boroughs. FA-licensed coaches work with young people aged 4–25, helping them access not only sport, but also education, professional contracts, and scholarships that can shape their futures.
Environmental
Transition to low-emission mobility
We are playing an active part in the move towards electric mobility, developing electric wheelchair accessible vehicles and minibuses, including the Kia PV5 and Ford eTransit, to help drive down carbon emissions across the sector.
Reducing our environmental impact
Maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and environmental responsibility is central to how we operate. We align our processes and continuous improvement activities with ISO 14001, the internationally recognised environmental management standard, which helps guide our efforts to reduce our impact on the environment.
We recognise that the wellbeing of our planet is critical, and we are committed to supporting global conservation through investment in ecosystem-enhancing projects worldwide. To ensure our positive impact is sustained, we pledge to plant five trees every month via Green Earth, helping to offset the carbon footprint of our manufacturing operations.
Demonstrating our commitment to quality, safety and industry excellence.
